I stood on the balcony of my house in the city of Portal, overlooking the park and wearing my best suit.  Tonight was the 30th anniversary of my marriage to Amy Rose, and I couldn't wait for our night out to begin.

It all seemed like yesterday when Amy and I returned from our honeymoon in the mountains.  All our friends were there to welcome us back home at the airport.  After everyone had welcomed us home, we all headed back to our new house for our wedding reception.  The party was huge, like a big, happy family reunion.  Then again, our friends had always been our family.

Just a few weeks after getting back home from our honeymoon, Amy and I organized a 'Restoration Committee', gathering volunteers and donated suppliers to help restore the Great Forest.  All of the Freedom Fighters (except Rotor due to his back injury) along with half of New Mobotropolis offered to help.  Everyone worked hard, and in just a few days, enough trees had been planted to restore all the Great Forest (or at least enough to cover the scarred areas).
For the next several months, more volunteers would assist us in maintaining the wellbeing of the forest's new trees once every week.  Eventually, the King presented Amy and I with a trophy of a golden tree for our services and dedication.

My new wife was a Freedom Fighter.  As such, she would risk her life (along with the other Freedom Fighters) to guard the freedom of Mobian kind when it was most threatened.  I knew that Amy was strong, in both body and spirit.  But I felt that whenever she would go into battle, I could not just wait and hope that she would come always back to me, safe and sound.  So I spent several weeks learning how to provide technical support for the Freedom Fighters.  Nicole was my main mentor, but Rotor would also offer his support when he wasn't busy discussing important matters with the Council.
Nicole and I would often hang out together during breaks.  There was still a lot she needed to learn about being a Mobian, so I would teach her while we hung out as her payment.  In fact, she was one of the few besides Amy to let me tickle with the feather tickler that Amy gave me on our honeymoon.  She really enjoyed it, especially on her toes.  I just knew that her feet were all black excluding the toes for some reason!

However, I felt that providing technical support wasn't enough.  My wife was a fearsome fighter and I felt like I needed to know how to fight too, or at least be able to defend myself.  So I arranged a trip to Angel Island, where I spent several days staying with the Chaotix.  Knuckles would teach me how to fight, while Julie-Su would teach me how to shoot straight with a gun.  After returning home, Amy and I would train together every morning.  I was a fast learner, and never forgot a single thing the Chaotix taught me.

Eventually I become involved in providing technical support for the Freedom Fighters besides Nicole and some other Freedom Fighters in a number of their battles.
One day, there was a big battle between Eggman and the Freedom Fighters on the outskirts of New Mobotropolis.  Rotor and I were providing technical support with Nicole.  In the middle of the fight, Amy was injured and knocked down.  Witnessing my wife's injury on display from the lab, I immediately made for the door.  Rotor tried to stop me, saying it was too dangerous for me.  But I objected by stating that I couldn't bear to just sit there while my wife was out there, suffering.
"She needs me," I said.  "And I need her!"
And so Rotor let me go.

I ran to the battle scene outside the city walls, as fast as I could.  I found Amy being carried away by Bunnie, who also said I shouldn't be out in the thick of a battle.  But again, I said that she was my wife and it was my responsibility, as her husband, to be there for her.  I said that I would the one to take her to hospital.
"Besides, we need every last Freedom Fighter out there in the fight," I told Bunnie.
So I carried Amy all the way to hospital, never stopping once to catch my breath.  Once there, I remained by her bedside until she regained consciousness.  The battle outside was won not long before she awake to feel the strength of my hand holding hers.  She had to remain in hospital overnight, but I wouldn't leave her side except to go home for bed.
The following morning I arrived at the hospital to bring Amy home.  When I saw her moved into the lobby in a wheelchair, I fell over myself and lifted her in my arms, holding one enough in a tight embrace.  I carried her in my arms all the way home.

From that moment on, I vowed never to leave her side ever again.  For the next few days, I spent most of my time training.  And the whole time, my mind was on being strong enough to fight right beside Amy.  No matter how tired I got while getting into shape, no matter how often I'd miss my target while practicing shooting, I just kept on going and didn't stop for anything but water or a quick breather.
However, after several days of hard non-stop training, Amy began to notice that I was wearing myself out.  With each passing day, I'd move slower, eat slower, did everything slower.  I was even going to bed earlier every evening and waking up later every morning.  I didn't even have time for family time anymore.  So one night, Amy got into bed early with me and asked for me to go back to being a technical supporter.
"But I need to be able to fight alongside you," I argued.
"You can be by providing technical support," Amy responded.  "After all, you never tired yourself out when you were studying that."
"I don't want to be sitting safe in a lab while you're probably miles away risking getting yourself hurt," I said.
"And what if you were to get hurt?  Don't you think I would be just as worried? Amy argued.
"Well, I, uh…" I didn't know what to say.
"Look here," Amy said.  "You're clearly better suited to technical support than fighting.  And we need technical supporters just as much as we need fighters.  If you really want to be there for me, you'll be there providing me and the other Freedom Fighters with technical support.  That's how you're going to protect.
"Look, have a sleep in tomorrow morning and take the day off from training.  You deserve it.  And from now on, just train enough for you to stay healthy and be able to defend yourself if you ever need to."
I thought about it for a moment, and then said, "Okay."
Amy smiled.  "Come here, you!"
She moved towards my face and kissed me.  I wrapped my arm around her as I turned out the light.  And so we hugged and kissed each other to sleep.

Shortly after that, I began work as a book keeper of the kingdom's treasury for a living.  I was very good at keeping record of the kingdom's money and preparing its budgets.  I was also capable of coming up with several ideas that would benefit the kingdom and still its treasury in balance, many of which the Council agreed to.  These skills allowed me to quickly climb to the top as Head of the Kingdom's Treasury in just a few years.
However, this great new position of mine soon became short lived, after Shadow the Hedgehog conquered all of Mobius and married our good friend and Queen, Sally!  Shortly after starting work under the new King's rule, I became appalled by the King's decisions on the treasury.  All funding to important matters had been cut, including that of the orphanage and homeless shelter, floral committee and disabled benefits.  Now most of the treasury's expenses were for the funding of Shadow's new law enforcement, the Dark Presence.  Once I even tried to present my popular suggestions to the King like I did with the Council, but he just threw it in my face.  He said I could even expect being demoted or even sacked if I ever tried to "tell him" how to spend the kingdom's money!
So with that, I ended up arranging several secret meetings with Queen Sally, to see if she might be able the necessary arrangements.  However, she afraid that Shadow would notice if extra funding was provided for anything but the Dark Presence.  After all, there was no way she could keep something like that secret among the public.  She did say, however, that she would do her best to carry these projects one piece at a time, without provoking the King.  After all, the only reason Sally married Shadow has to keep him from unleashing all his power over Mobius, and she was afraid what might happen if they divorced.
After some time, I arranged my last secret meeting with the Queen, to tell her that it was best for Amy and I to leave town.  She was shocked at first since we'd always been such close friends.  But after explaining to her that I couldn't help the kingdom while under the rule and employment of tyranny, she agreed.  I had also come to her so she could assist in terminating my employment and help Amy and I get out of town.  I did this because I was afraid of what Shadow might have done to us if I told him that we were leaving, but Sally may be able to cover things up and, if not, convince him better.
The very next morning, Sally saw us off, and we gave her one last "thank you" hug goodbye.

For the next many years, Amy and I lived a new life in Downunda.  We ended up settling down in a lot of different places, getting work where we could that would help benefit the community.  Amy would usually hold work within the neighborhood, while I spent much of my time traveling to help improve many other communities all over the world.  Amy would occasionally join me on several trips.  The last place we settled down in Downunda was the same neighborhood that Tails, along with his wife, Mina, and kids, Skye and Melody, had settled down as well.  They even let us stay with them for a couple of weeks after we arrived to discover our new house was still under construction.
Things always seemed to be going great at the best of times.  But every time my mind wondered, I thought about all our old friends.  Especially Sonic, who mysteriously disappeared during the war with Eggman and presumed dead.  But that was something Amy and I could never agree with.  We believed in our hearts that Sonic was still alive and would eventually return to us.
Then one day, Sonic did come back!

Word spread fast of King Shadow's defeat and Sonic's return.  Amy and I were already planning to visit the kingdom's new capital, Portal, on Angel Island to be reunited with our long last friend and new future king, Sonic, as well our old friend and queen, Sally, who we also hadn't seen for many years.  When, on the following day of Sonic's return and proposal to Sally, I received word from our old friends had invited us to come live in Portal and for me to be reinstated as Head of the Kingdom's Treasury.  Amy and I accepted immediately!

The next week, Amy and I landed at Portal Airport, where we were delighted to be greeted by non other than Sonic and Queen Sally themselves.  Amy immediately ran right up to Sonic and threw her arms (and legs) around him.  She was so happy to see him again after so many years, she just couldn't let go of him.  But I was right behind her.  We both hung on to Sonic and Sally for like five minutes, before we finally all headed off to see our brand new home.
Sonic and Sally showed us to the house that would be our home to this very day.  They had made all the arrangements for the house themselves and even gave us a tour.  Amy and I loved it, especially the spectacular view of the park.
After that, Sonic and Sally gave us a tour of all there was to know about Portal.  Then they took us in to their own castle and showed us around there as well, including a new empty room that was to be their new baby's room.  When Amy and I heard that they were expecting a child, we immediately fell over ourselves and just had to give them another hug.  We were even inviting to honorary guests of their wedding.  Amy was even offered to be their Maid of Honor.  They already had a Best Man, which was Tails (of course).
Amy and I had never had such an exciting day since our own wedding.  It was like the rebirth of our old, beautiful friendship between us, Sonic and Sally.  So happy that when they asked me when I'd be restarting with my old work, I immediately answered, "Tomorrow!"

It has now been nearly five years since Amy and I first moved to Portal.  Tonight, Amy and I were going to eat out at Rory's before having a quiet time by the river in the park.
Just then, I felt someone's hand on my back.  My wife was there standing beside me wearing a pink and white dress, long white gloves and silver high heels.
"Are you ready to go, Honey?" she asked me.
"Always, my darling," I replied.
And so, I gave a kiss for luck before we took each others hand and set off.  (She was tall enough now to take my hand without raising her arm, but I was still over a foot taller than her).

So Amy and I got into the back of our rented limousine drove the twenty-one blocks to Rory's, where we were delighted to find King Sonic and Queen Sally waiting for us at the entrance.
They came up to us and gave us a hug, shouting, "Happy Anniversary!"
After breaking from the hugs, they handed us a largely wrapped present.
"Awe, you guys didn't have to," I said, taking the present.
"Sure we did," Sally replied.  "You guys have been our friends since before you were married thirty years ago.  You're family to us.  Even the kids love you like family."
"How are Sonia and Manik anyway?" Amy asked.
"They're about as much trouble Sonic was when he was their age," Sally joked.
We all laughed, and so did Sonic.
"But that's why we love them," Sally added on, putting her hands on Sonic's shoulders.  "Lara-Su is looking after them tonight, though."
"So what are you two doing tonight?" I asked.
"We just ate here," Sonic replied.  "Since we knew you were coming here, we decided to have an early dinner here first, and then wait for you guys to show up.  Now we're gonna take a quiet late-night stroll in the park before we go home."
"In the meantime, you two go and have a lovely evening," Sally said.
With that, we gave each another hug goodnight.  Then Sonic and Sally headed off for the park while Amy and I walked into the restaurant.

Amy and I had a lovely dinner at Rory's.  The food was great, but the whole time our eyes had been focused on one another, except when using our knives and forks.  It wasn't the cheapest food around, but it was worth it.
After an hour or two, we paid our check and began to make our way towards the park.  It was about a fifteen minute walk from the restaurant to the river, which was a fair bit for Amy, who was wearing high heels.  But with me walking alone by her side through our favorite place in town, her feet were the least of her concerns.  However, once we had reached the river, Amy immediately sat down on the bank, took of her high heels and treaded her toes in the water.
I sat beside her and placed my hands on her shoulders.
"You alright?" I asked her.
Amy turned her head at me.
"I'm fine.  Top of the world," she said, as lifted her feet up from the water and wiggled her toes.
We both giggled together, before Amy put her toes back down in the water.  Then I began to rub her shoulders.  Amy quickly let out a moan of pleasure and began to lightly kick her feet in the water.

After about five minutes of rubbing, Amy took her feet out from the river and placed them on the bank.
She turned to me and said, "My feet are a little wet to put back in my shoes.  Why don't we have some fun while we wait for them to dry?"
I laughed and moved my face towards hers.  "I thought we had already planned to have a little fun here, tonight."
We both giggled, and then kissed.  As we made out, we put our arms around each other.  Amy then laid back on the ground and let me tower over her.  For a while we just laid there on the river bank, alone and secured in a tight smooch and embrace with nothing around us but the lush green grass and calming sounds of the following river.

After a while of making love, I reached out and felt Amy's feet to see if they were dry.
"Your feet," I said to her.  "They're cold!"
"How could they be?" Amy replied, putting her arms around my neck.  "I just feel so warm!"
I gave a little laugh, and hugged her warmly.
At that moment, I thought it was time for us to leave.  I placed Amy's shoes back on her feet myself.  Then we headed for the nearest park entrance, where we called a taxi to take us home.
Once we were back inside the house, I surprisingly lifted Amy up into my arms and carried her upstairs to our bedroom.  I then laid her down on the centre of the bed, took off her left shoe and gave her foot a quick rub before doing the same to the other foot.  Then I took off her dress, and put on her a clean nightgown that we had prepared before our outing.  Then I picked her up again, carried her over to her side of the bed, pulled back the sheets, settled her down on her pillow and tucked her into bed.  I knelt down and gave her a quick kiss before I got into my pair of clean pajamas.  And as I tucked myself into bed, I reached out and placed my arm around Amy.
"These last three decades have been the best," I told her.  "And I can't wait to have more decades with you!"
Amy smiled, scooted across towards me, and then snuggled up against me.
And so, the lights went out, and Amy and I fell asleep in each other's arms.
This is the finale of the 'My Date with Amy Rose' series. A story in which Amy Rose and I had been married for exactly 30 years!

By the way, I'm sure Sonic will suffer from Sally's antics. I suffered from them before she married Sally.
